Although I did love the perfectly portioned, individual meals of my past meal preps because it appealed to the neurotic organizer in me, it is a tedious process, and takes a lot more time then it needs to.
I started doing more research and found a few people referring to ‘Buffet Style’ meal preps, and I was intrigued. All it is, is making large batches of stuff you like, and mixing and matching what you feel like eating for any given meal.
There was some trial and error with this style at the beginning because I would make the batches too big and would end up having some of it go bad. But if the portions are calculated properly, this method is an awesome alternative to the classic meal preps.
All I had to cook was…
- Steel Cut Oats
- Sole Fillets
- Roasted Sweet Potato
- Tofu ‘Egg’ salad
Veggies and fruit are all whole, and raw so there is really no prep there, and as they lose a large amount of nutrients once they start to oxidize it is better to wait until you are ready to eat fruits and veggies before cutting them.
So where meal prep would take anywhere from 1 to 2 hours, now it took about 30 minutes, and had much less mess to clean up afterwards!
